Investing in Yourself: Optimizing Your Energy

Investment it’s the most obvious trait of intelligent human beings. People invest in luxury, property, liabilities, and many other things with the hope of getting a hefty return in the future. This tendency of ours most of the time leads to a secure and better future. But sometimes it fails by the reason of that person’s miscalculation, short-sightedness, or change in the society and environment.

With time, the components of investments have changed, but there is only one factor that investment can never go wrong. Investing in being a better version of a human. With time, consistency, and a proper plan, this goes in the long run with the highest amount of benefits.

If we talk about the time we are facing, being a strong, rational, intelligent person is the most secure way to live a life. But what are the factors we need to focus on more to become a better, wiser version of ourselves?

This is a series of three posts where I will cover different aspects of yourself and where, why, and how to invest there. This is the first one of the three and here I am focusing on investing cleaning your image, your surroundings, and growing your communication circle.

  1. Talk to people, make friends:

Talking in the way of self-expression is a process where you can find the strong and weak sides of yourself. Talking with like-minded people and expressing your thoughts and opinions helps you to evaluate your point of view. You can revise yourself if needed. As you grow, your circle also increases, from your school friends to college buddies to your office-mates. As you see the world more, you gain more people in your life and have the option of choosing who you are going to be with you for a long time and not.

You refresh your surroundings and build a strong network. It’s necessary to talk with people from different social and cultural backgrounds to expand your views and knowledge. The more you interact with people whose opinions contrast, the more you can understand how little your boundary is and how more you need to expand that.

Making friends with like-minded people allows growing on the same idea and building a healthier future together. To open the windows of your mind, even if you are introverted, you need to talk, chat, or contact others more. To expand your true wisdom, you need to talk with people, make friends, and if you get the chance to idolize some among them and follow their successful path, you should do that too.

  1. Clean up your image:

If you are serious enough in the journey of becoming a better version and investing in yourself, then you seriously need to reconsider what version of yourself you want to show the world. The image you create, the version you want to show the world, depends on your goals and ambitions towards life. And people need to think that you are genuine in your behaviour, and it is aligned with the path you follow.

In the era of social media, it is very easy to find out anything that contrasts with your personality that you’ve once posted online to put you down. So, brushing up on yourself and becoming true to you, which perfectly shows what you are and what you value the most, is necessary to invest in yourself.

  1. Understand how to build health in your life

Your health is the most important thing in your life to invest in. Having good health in today’s life is imperative. Being healthy from both inside and outside will make you a strong human being. As to having good physical health, you need to follow a basic routine daily. Like eating healthy foods, adding leafy vegetables, eating less processed foods, sleeping 7-8 hours daily, exercising 5 days a week, and drinking enough water. And to have a healthy mind, you need to use your brain in activities that require decision making, analytical and logical thinking; you need to declutter yourself by journaling, doing meditation, and spending time in introspection.

You need to take care of the overall growth of your health, and in return, you’ll get one of the most precious gifts, the lifetime freedom from lousy health concerns that hinder the growth you projected. If you’re not healthy, how would you enjoy the life you envisioned and created?

  1. Optimize your environment

The environment plays a great role in growth, and we all know that. But here the word’ environment’ is not representing your surroundings, it also covers the people with whom you stay, you talk, the place where you sit and study regularly, the bed where you sleep, your room, and your house. In the previous points, I have discussed the importance of optimizing the people around you. And how you need to clean up your image. So that the people you meet also start to take your inner transformation seriously.

But at the same time, it is also important to clean the surroundings around you. The room where you spend most of your time, the bed where you sleep, and the cupboard where you put your belongings should also conform to your character. If clutter, dirt, and unnecessary things are lying here and there, they will distract you and in need you won’t find the thing you're looking for in that mess. We mostly need 20% of our things 80% of our time, and the rest 80% just lie there waiting for their chance. Be it extra pens that are not of use, your old clothes, age-old notebooks that are not in need now, or anything that doesn’t serve a purpose now and won’t be needed in the future as well. Use them, then through them, sell them, get rid of them.

It may be hard for you at first to let them go, but if you try to think clearly, most of those things don’t serve any purpose in your recent life and just lie there, making the space overcrowded. Once the space gets clear, so will your thoughts. You’ll start to think and do things clearly and more precisely. The distractions are gone now, and with them the energy that was blocked. The more you optimize your work workspace, the more productive you’ll become. The more you can decide what you need to do with more focus.

In these first four points, I tried to put my points forward on investing in tidying up yourself and creating the image you want to see yourself in the future. In the next post, I will focus on investment in the growth of your knowledge, wit, and creativity. And in the last post, I will talk about the fields where you should invest to become a stronger you.
